High voltage campaign for by poll to Bijepur Assembly seat in Odisha ends

Bhubaneswar, Oct 19 (UNI) High voltage campaign for the by-election to Bijepur Assembly seat in Odisha, to be held on October 21 next, ended here today.
The by election to Bijepur was necessitated as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who successfully contested both Hinjili, his traditional seat, and Bijepur in 2019 Assembly election, vacated the Bijepur seat.
The counting of votes will be done on October 24 next.
Leaders of three Political parties – BJD, BJP and the Congress-- tirelessly campaigned day and night to ensure the victory of their candidates.
BJD Supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik conducted road shows extensively for two days moving in a hi-tech bus designed for electioneering and sought votes for party candidate while announcing Bijepur to be the prime focus of development of his government.
Several of Ministers, Party MPs and MLAs virtually camped in Bijepur to ensure the victory of their candidate Rita Sahu.
On the other hand, Union Minister for petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, Union MSME Minister Pratap Sarangi and senior BJP state leaders, including MLAs and MPs campaigned for party candidate Sarat Gartia, who was defeated by a margin of over 60,000 votes in the 2019 general election at the hands of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Mr Patnaik was in Bijepur for two days on October 17 and 18 to woo the voters in support of his party candidate.
Similarly, OPCC President Niranjan Patnaik, senior Congress leader Nrusingha Mishra, former Minister Suresh Chandra Routray and Party MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati campaigned for their party candidate Dillip Panda.

Bijepur is facing election for the third time within period of one and half years.
The first by election to Bijepur was held in 2018 after the death of sitting Congress MLA Subal Sahu. His widow Rita Sahu joined the BJD and won the by election.
BJD Chief Naveen Patnaik fought from Bijepur and Hinjli in 2019 general election and won from both the seats. He later vacated Bijepur seat.
