High Commission of Canada celebrates National Girl Child Day of India

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) The High Commission of Canada on Friday marked the ‘National Girl Child Day of India’ by announcing the third edition of the ‘Run For Her’ which will be held on March 8 here.

Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women (NCW), Swati Maliwal, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief joined the event as the chief guest alongside diplomats, media, corporate representatives, civil society organizations, educational institutions, social influencers and community leaders.



Director General, South Asia Bureau, David Hartman and other senior officials from Government of Canada were also present at the curtain raiser event.



Announcing the “Run For Her”, High Commissioner Nadir Patel remarked, “Investing in women and girls is not just the right thing to do, or the nice thing to do, but it’s the smart thing to do. I am proud to initiate the third edition of the “Run for Her”.



The run will be organized in partnership with ‘Run with Me’ Foundation. The event will recognize that supporting gender equality and empowerment of women and girls is the best way to build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous community.



The event will feature exciting activities such as a warm-up Zumba the session, a self-defence demonstration, an art display by local youth, information booths from NGOs working on interventions related to women’s and girls’ empowerment and many fun activities on the theme and on importance of gender equality.
