High alert in UP following recovery of IED on running train: NIA team reaches the spot

Chitrakoot/Lucknow, Jan 30 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has issued a high alert and sought National Investigation Agency assistance following timely disposal of a timer explosive on the Mumbai bound Mahanagari Express train at Manikpur station. UP police has sought the help of NIA in the incident and the team from NIA has reached the spot today. The officials also did not rule out a terrorist act behind the incident. Additional Director General of Police (Railways) CL Meena here today did not rule out the terrorist act in the last night's incident and confirmed that NIA team has reached the spot. He said the investigation was underway and the forsenic teams were probing the nature of the explosives. Meanwhile a report from Allahabad, said after the Manikpur incident, a similar bomb threat was received from Maha Bodhi Express train bound for New Delhi and after checking nothing was found. But two youths were detained on suspecion from the train. However,a major tragedy was averted by the alert police when they defused an IED bomb recovered from the bathroom of S-3 coach of Mumbai bound Mahanagri express near Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot district. SP, Chitrakoot, KK Choudhary told UNI here "a bomb like structure comprising small watch along with wires and a letter written in English language was spotted by some passengers in the bathroom of S-3 coach of Mahanagri express last evening when it was heading towards Mumbai from Varanasi. The passengers immediately informed and alerted GRP and RPF sleuths about the possibility of time bomb. SP further maintained that an expert team and sleuths of bomb defusing squad were called up from Allahabad to defuse the IED bomb. The team had defused the bomb with a big sound at 0300 hrs near an isolated place. The explosion during the defusal was so big that it made a 4.5 feet ditch. A senior police officer here said the 11034 Mahanagari express train has four stoppage between Varanasi and Manikpur and hence probe was underway to find out on which station the explosives were put inside the toilet. Meanwhile, after the last night's incident, all the railway stations have been alerted and heavy checking of all the trains have been underway. UNI MB AE BD1749
