Heavy vehicle movement on highways to be regulated: AP Minister

Kakinada, Sep 14 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads and Buildings Ch Ayyanna Patrudu on Friday said the highways were getting damaged due to movements of heavy vehicles as such efforts were being made to regulate them.

Addressing a function after laying foundation stone for the R& B road from Rajavaram to S Pydipala junction at Routhulapudi, he said Rs 14 crore were sanctioned for the road.

He said all the highways of R&B department were laid to bear the load up to 20 tonnes capacity, whereas heavy vehicles of 40 tonnes weightage were travelling on them, causing damage. He said Rs 2000 crore funds would be released to the R& B roads soon, of which Rs 25 crore would be given to roads in Prattipadu constituency.

He claimed that work on 25,000 km CC roads was taken up recently in the state, which is highest in the country. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Home Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, who chaired the function, said the irrigation and other projects initiated by the state government were yielding good results, while the law and order situation was well under control.

Zilla Parishad Chairman Jyothula Naveen Kumar and MLA Varupula Subbarao attended the event.
