Heavy rain alert sound in MP

Bhopal, Aug 24 (UNI) Even as principal rivers are in spate and nullahs overflowing in Madhya Pradesh due to downpours in numerous places over the past couple of days and draining of excess water from reservoirs, the India Meteorological Department warned of isolated yet intense precipitation over the next 24 hours in Bhopal, Raisen, Rajgarh, Sehore, Vidisha, Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Shajapur, Dewas, Agar Malwa, Dhar, Indore, Jhabua, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Harda, Sagar, Guna and other districts.
“Saturday’s rainfall figures include Betul 86 mm, Gwalior 56, Hoshangabad 52, Guna 51, Bhopal 25 and Indore 20. The Narmada, Tapti, Betwa and Parvati rivers are torrents. The monsoon has become hyperactive over the state owing to merger of a low-pressure area – which formed over the Bay of Bengal and Odisha a couple of days back – with another similar system generated over Vidarbha. The trough line is passing over Rewa and cyclonic circulation is existent at an altitude of 1.5 km over Madhya Pradesh’s north-eastern part,” senior meteorologist Uday Sarwate told UNI here.
