Heavy downpour drench Kangra valley

Kangra, Aug 17 (UNI) Kangra valley was on Saturday drenched following heavy rains since last night triggering landslides in various parts of the region.
Kangra town recorded 131 mm of rainfall while Dharamshala town recorded 150 mm rains during last 24 hours.
It started raining last night and Kangra recorded 118 mm rains during the night and in the day today 13 mm rains were recorded. Dharamshala recorded 115.6 mm rains in the night and in the day today it recorded
34.4 mm rains. A number of roads were blocked and damaged due to rains and landslides.
The rains triggered landslides, uprooted trees which blocked national highways The rivers were swollen. Chakki bridge in Nurpur area was flooded and the floods were posing threat to the railway bridge connecting Pathankot with Joginder nagar near Nurpur.
A major landslide triggered on Dharamshala-Hoshiarpur National highway at Sakoh leaving people stranded on both sides. The traffic was diverted from other side. The people were risking life by crossing over the landslide along with two wheeler and were caught in the mud. The road was cleared later in the day.
A tree which was uprooted at Joanta on Pathankot Mandi National Highway left the traffic disrupted for few hours till the tree was removed by JCB. Jabbar Khad was flooded and the water entered Khanni village of this district. The roads became the rivers all over.
The banner Khad was flooded following a cloud burst in Palampur area of this district today but without anyb human loss. The banner khad was swollen and authorities were asking people not venture near the swollen Banner Khad.
All schools and colleges were declared closed for today by Deputy Commissioner Kangra Rakesh Prajapati following heavy rains.
Pathankot Mandi national Highway was damaged at Ladwara near here following heavy rains in the area. At Ladwara a part of Pathankot Mandi national highway was damaged more than a year back but was further washed away today leaving passing of the vehicles risky in the area.
