HC leader arrested after evading arrest for 5 months in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police today detained a senior leader of hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) in the frontier district of Kupwara after he evaded arrest for last five months.
Police raided the house of Farooq Ahmad Bhat at Kupwara and took him into custody. Bhat who is acting Kupwara district president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH), a constituent of hardline HC headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was evading arrest since the start of unrest in July last year.
A spokesman of the HC said police, in civil dress, chased Bhat and arrested him during a raid early this morning. Criticising the arrest of Bhat, he said the activities of the separatist leader were peaceful. The spokesperson said police raided his house a number of times and even arrested his brother and ailing father.
