Haryanvi actress attempts self-immolation near UP CM residence

Lucknow, Sep 6 (UNI) Tension prevailed outside the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s residence after a woman associated with the Haryanvi film industry attempted self-immolation, allegedly in protest against inaction by authorities in a rape case filed by her.
The woman, a resident of Sector 53 in Noida, arrived in Lucknow today and went directly to the Chief Minister’s residence. According to eyewitnesses and video footage, she approached the security barricades and attempted to pour an inflammable substance upon herself. Police personnel present at the site responded swiftly, prevented the incident by removing the bottle, and took her into custody.
She was immediately taken to Hazratganj police station, where she was accompanied by her elder sister. Police said she is safe and is currently being counseled.

SGPC condemns removal of 'Karas' during CTET in Bathinda; orders probe

Chandigarh, Feb 9 (UNI) The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has expressed strong resentment over an incident at a Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) center in Bathinda, where Sikh candidates were allegedly asked to remove their ‘Karas’ (religious iron bracelets) before entering the examination hall. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami termed the incident a reflection of an "anti-Sikh mindset" and has ordered a high-level probe into the matter.

Two killed after wedding cars fall into canal in Prayagraj; eight rescued

Prayagraj, Feb 9 (UNI) Two people were killed and eight others rescued after two cars carrying wedding guests plunged into a canal in Prayagraj district late on Sunday night, police said Monday.
The accident occurred around 10:30 pm in the Koraon police station area, when a wedding procession was traveling from Naini to Ghugha village. The cars lost control and fell into the Belan Main Canal, which was filled with water.
