Haryana govt fixs roles & responsibilities of stakeholders in COVID dead body management

Chandigarh, Apr 8 (UNI) With fear raging that COVID-19 could spread and infect those handling the affected bodies, Haryana Government has issued directions and fixed the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in COVID body management.
Sharing more details about this sensitive issue, a spokesman for the Urban Local Bodies Department said that keeping in view the imperative need to adopt strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, which is playing havoc in many countries across the world, the State Government has authorized all Commissioners of Municipal Corporations, Executive Officers of Municipal Councils and Secretaries of Municipal Committees to dispose of dead bodies of COVID strictly as per the guidelines/protocol on dead body management issued by Directorate General of Health Services (EMR Division) Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He informed that as per the guidelines, the standard infection prevention control practices shall be followed which includes hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (e.g., water-resistant apron, gloves, masks, eyewear), safe handling of sharp objects, disinfect the bag housing dead body; instruments and devices used on the patient and disinfect linen, cleaning and sanitizing environmental surfaces.
