Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) With the election campaign for the General Assembly Election-2019, in Haryana coming to an end at 6 pm on Saturday; there would be a complete ban on holding of public meetings or processions in connection with an election in the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of the poll.
While giving this information here today, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mr. Anurag Agarwal said that polling for the 90 assembly seats in the State would be held on October 21 from 7 am to 6 pm. He said that after the ban, no political parties or candidates will be allowed to hold any meetings or public meetings.
The Chief Electoral Officer further said that as per the Commission's instructions, except for candidate or his election agent, political functionaries who are not a voter of the constituency would not remain present in the constituency.
Mr. Anurag Agarwal said that Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 prohibits holding of such meetings and processions during this period. He said that no person would convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meetings or procession in connection with an election or display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus.
He said that similarly, no person would propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public, in any polling area during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the voting in the polling area. With this, restriction is also applicable on the use of loudspeaker during this period.
