Hamirpur sees polling at a brisk pace due to clear weather

Hamirpur(HP), Jan 17(UNI)
Polling for the first phase of Panchayati raj elections in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh started on Sunday morning at a brisk pace due to clear weather conditions.
People started lining up outside the polling stations to cast their votes since 8.00 a.m when polling started.
Agents of the political parties and polling staff on duty were present on their seats to spearhead the polling process.
The polling started for eighty-five gram panchayats of the district through 503 polling stations across the district, informed Debashweta Banik, the Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur. She expressed satisfaction at the people's enthusiasm for exercising their franchise.
Reports reaching here from different parts of the district where polling is in progress told this reporter that around five to eight percent voters have cast their votes in the first half hour of the voting.
