Half of Dabolim will be demolished if govt goes by Navy circular: Minister

Half of Dabolim will be demolished if govt goes by Navy circular: Minister

Panaji, May 28 (UNI) Goa Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday said the state government has urged Defence Minister Rajanth Singh to water down restrictions imposed on civilian construction projects near defence establishments in the state.
"Half of Dabolim would be demolished, if government goes by the recent circular of Indian Navy of constructions within 500 metres of Naval base," the minister told reporters at assembly complex at Porvorim.
Godinho said he had told the defence minister that the rules about constructions within 500 meters from Naval base were for bigger states.
Godinho had met the defence minister while he was on his way to attend a function at Naval base at Karwar in Karnataka.
Godinho said he had submitted a memorandum to Mr Singh regarding difficulties being faced by people residing in and around Goa International Airport at Dabolim.
Credai-Goa and locals have expressed apprehension over construction restrictions imposed through the colour coded zoning map (CCZM) for Goa International Airport.
According to the current process, any construction within close proximity of the airport requires permission from the Indian Navy.
