Half centuries by Rana, Tripathy propel KKR to 187 for six

Chennai, Apr 11 (UNI) Blistering half centuries by opener
Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathy powered Kolkata Knight
Riders (KKR) to a formidable 187 for six in their IPL T-20
match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) here on
Sunday night.
Asked to bat firt, KKR were off to a roaring start, with
south paw Rana, who hit three consecutive fours of medium
pacer Sandeep Sharma and hoisted the first ball of yorker
specialist Natarajan for a six, scored at a good pace.
However, KKR lost wickets in the middle, before former
skipper Dinesh Karthik provided the final flourish with
a 9-ball 22.
Opener Shubman Gill started promisingly, before he fell
to the guiles of Rashid Khan after which Rana (80, 56
balls, 9x4, 4x6) and Rahul Tripathi (53, 29 balls, 5x4,
2x6) added 93 runs for the second wicket in 8.2 overs,
with Rana running riot.
However, Tripathi's exit triggered a minor collapse as
power hitter Andre Russel and captain Eoin Morgan fell
cheaply, before Dinesh Karthick provided the late surge
to help KKR score a fighting total.
