Had Priyanka contested from Varanasi, PM Modi's defeat was certain: Rahul

Rae Bareli (UP), June 11 (UNI) Former Congress president and newly elected MP from Rae Bareli Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday claimed that if his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had contested the Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bound to lose the election by two to three lakh votes.
While expressing his gratitude to the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi for the victory in the election, Rahul said that through the election results, a message has been sent from Rae Bareli and Amethi as well as the entire Uttar Pradesh that the people are against the politics of hatred and arrogance and will not tolerate any attempt to tamper with the Constitution.
He said that while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a crushing defeat in Ayodhya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a marrow victory in Varanasi. "I was already telling my sister Priyanka to contest the election from Varanasi, and if she had listened to me, the Prime Minister would have lost the election by two to three lakh votes," he said.
The newly elected MP said, "Prime Minister Modi often says that he does nothing, God makes everything happen. I don't understand what kind of God he has who helps Ambani and Adani. Now that the public has given its verdict, everyone saw him bowing before the Constitution. This is the power of the public."
He said that one of the reasons for the victory of the INDI Alliance in the Lok Sabha elections was unity. "Earlier, elections were also fought in alliance, but there was a complaint that the alliance partners did not support each other. In Lok Sabha polls, workers of Samajwadi Party and Congress were seen supporting each other in UP with full dedication. In other states also, the coordination between the alliance parties was unique," he said.
Listing the reasons for the loss of seats to BJP, he said that the reason for BJP's defeat was its arrogance and politics of hatred. "This is against the culture and religions of India. The people of India have shown that they do not like the vision of the Prime Minister," he said.
He said that the BJP used to win elections by spreading hatred among the poor and distributing its benefits among a few capitalists. "During the inauguration of Ram temple in Ayodhya, there were industrialists, Bollywood and cricket celebrities, but there were no poor, Dalits, farmers, and labourers. The people of Ayodhya have given the answer to the BJP through their votes," he said.
While advising his officials and workers, he said that they should not fall prey to arrogance. "They will have to give a new vision to the country along with the people of UP. They will have to open a 'Mohabbat ki Dukaan' in the market of hatred.
Rahul said that his party will raise the voice of the people against inflation and unemployment in Parliament. "Now we have a whole army in Parliament, therefore, while sitting in the opposition, we will try to get the Agniveer scheme cancelled," he said.
Calling for the relations of the Congress family with Rae Bareli and Amethi, he said that this relationship is more than 100 years old. "When the farmers here raised the flag against British rule, my maternal grandfather, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, came here to support them," he said.
On this occasion, he thanked the party officials and workers and expressed gratitude to the public. On this occasion, Congress national general secretary KC Venugopal, newly elected from Amethi KL Sharma, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, state president Ajay Rai, party general secretary Avinash Pandey, Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari, and leader of the legislative party Aradhana Mishra Mona were present.
It may be noted that Rahul Gandhi has been elected as Congress MP from Rae Bareli, while Kishori Lal Sharma, who is close to the Gandhi family, defeated Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Amethi in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Congress, which fought as a part of the India-Alliance, has won six seats in UP, while in 2019, only Sonia Gandhi could win the election in Rae Bareli and Rahul Gandhi had to lose the Amethi seat.
This time Rahul has won the elections from Wayanad in Kerala and Rae Bareli, although he has decided to leave Wayanad and retain the Rae Bareli seat.
