Guru Nanak Institute of Technology organises FOOD ENVISION 2K19

Kolkata, Sep 20 (UNI) In its continued effort to build awareness,
enthusiasm among students and engage them in collaborative joint
activity with industry , the Food Technology Department of Guru Nanak
Institute of Technology, a flagship college of the JIS Group has
organised FOOD ENVISION 2K19 , an Allied Science Technology Fest.
“We are extremely delighted to have organised this fest which was
spearheaded by Dr. Kakali Bandhopadhyay, adjudged the best faculty
from MAKAUT, the energetic student’s volunteer’s team, conveners,
coordinators along with Pro faculty team’, stated Sardar Taranjit
Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group.
The inaugural session was graced by Vice-Chancellor, JIS University,
Prof. (Dr.) B.C. Mal who was Chief Guest, Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharyya,
Principal, GNIDSR, who was Guest of Honour, Prof.(Dr.) Santanu Sen,
Principal, GNIT and Dr. Kakali Bandhopadhyay, Head of Department ,
Food Technology, GNIT along with several delegates of different
colleges and schools.
“This fest saw the registration and participation of around 175
students from different schools and colleges of West Bengal and other
states. The objective of having this fun fest was to foster knowledge
incubation, ideation, networking, collaborative and new demographic
learning. We tried to create a platform for a young talent of
entrepreneurial pool who showcased talent in an effort to enhance
individual capacity building’, stated Dr. Kakali Bandhopadhyay, HOD,
Food Technology Department, GNIT.
“The two day program included poster presentation on topics like food
terrorism, junk food no food, dangers of protein powder, edible food
packaging, green technology. Debate competitions included issues of
Mid Day Meal, Organic farming, Anti Plastic Campaign, Artificial Dyes
in Food, Diet Chart. There was also quiz competition, case studies and
model displays. Mr. Aviekal Kakkar , General Manager, Parle Agro Ltd.
added to the industry quotient by touching on Food Safety hazards
through a presentation. It was further added by Mr. Bidhan Das, Deputy
Director and Regional Head, Indian Institute of Packaging who gave a
presentation on “A New Era in Food Packaging”. Mr. P Naha, Vice
President,IR and Admin( Manufacturing), Keventer Agro Ltd. shared
industry bytes on Food and Processing. The idea of engaging Industry
heads was to ingrain and make aware the upcoming students abreast with
the current relevant health and safe practices in areas of Food
Technology and production”, stated Prof. (Dr.) Santanu Sen, Principal
, GNIT.
The quiz competition was won by Anusree Bhaumik from IGNOU. 7 teams
with Innovative Ideas and Scottish Church College won the Display
Model contest.
