Fishers (Indiana), Mar 17 (UNI) Indian-American philanthropist and entrepreneur Gurinder Singh Khalsa urged the Sikh community to vote and extend full support to him as he contesting for Fishers City Council at a fund raiser function at Royal Indian Restaurant in Castleton here on Monday.
The Republican Primary elections are slated for May 7. The response was very encouraging from all quarters.
"I have decided to devote my entire life to serve for the welfare of all communities. I am not a career politician but a local businessman. I have already pledged to donate my salary, if elected, as a Council member, to the Firefighter and Law Enforcement Associations of Fishers through," said Gurinder Khalsa, who originally hails from a remote Haryana village in Ambala.
Addressing estimated 250 supporters, which included businessmen, doctors, transporters and others, Gurinder Singh Khalsa asked for financial, moral support and vote. I need you all as I want to work to serve the humanity and "our children. I want to give back to community and help make Fishers a better place for families."
Rosa Parks Trailblazer Awardee Gurinder Singh Khalsa said " The community of Fishers has been a wonderful place to live, work, and raise our family. I want to be a part of giving back through public service.” adding that Gurinder will strive to bring a fresh perspective to our city government and encourage sustainable economic development in Fishers.
Mr Gurinder Singh Campaign Committee has already launched door-to-door campaign and he was happy from the encouraging support he is receiving from all residents of Fishers.
Earlier, at Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara, Gurinder Singh Khalsa explained the reasons for his contested the elections. He requested the women voters/supporters to come forward in large number in his campaign. Mr Gurinder Singh wants for "more active support from the female voters."
Mr Gurinder Singh Khalsa lauded his wife Gagandeep Kaur, who is working shoulder-to-shoulder with him, for her big contribution in his efforts for the welfare of the society.
As Mr Gurinder Singh asked the community to stand with him, a speaker intervened to urge "not stand, but to walk with him."
Mr Gurinder Singh is the president and CEO of SikhsMEDIA and a member of several boards and commissions within the city and state.
Among the prominent persons who attended the Fund Raising Function were Singh Jeff Wehmueller (chairman, Singh for Council Campaign), Linda Lucille Chezem, first female to serve as a county judge in Indiana (1975), Brian Jurkovich, Captain, Marion County Sheriff's Office Javed Khan, Dr Bijinder Kumar Kront, Dr Amandeep Singh, Baldev Singh Thind, Gurpreet Singh Malhi, Dalwara Singh, Gagandeep Kaur and Kamal Bains.
