Gulmarg, upper reaches receive fresh snowfall, rain in plains

Srinagar, Nov 17 (UNI) World famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other higher reaches received fresh snowfall in the Kashmir valley, where plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, experienced rain resulting in further chill on Friday.
Leh was coldest after the minimum temperature recorded further drop and settled at minus 6.9 degree followed by border town of Kargil and Gulmarg minus 5.6 degree
Light rain or snow would occur at scattered places in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, a Met department spokesman told UNI.
However, he said the weather will remain dry during the subsequent two days in the state.
The famed ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, received several inches of fresh snowfall. It was snowing, much to the delight of tourists and traders associated with the tourism, a hotel owner told UNI over phone Friday afternoon.
He said upper reaches, including Kongdori, Khilanmarg and Affarwat, highest skiing point connected by Cable Car, received moderate snowfall during the past 24 hours. However, due to fresh snowfall the minimum temperature recorded more than a notch drop and settled at minus 5.6 degree, about six notches below normal.
The upper heights in the north Kashmir, including areas near the Line of Control (LoC), also received fresh snowfall. However, braving chill and other weather woes, security forces remained on high alert to foil any militant attempt to sneak into this side before infiltration routes are closed due to heavy snowfall. Several feet of snow was recorded at Razdan top and Dawar forcing authorities to suspend traffic on Bandipora-Gurez road on Friday. Similarly traffic on several far flung and remote areas was also cut off due to snow and slippery road conditions. The plains in north Kashmir received rain disrupting normal life.
