Gujarat receives 146 pc rainfall

Gandhinagar, Nov 14 (UNI) Rainfall in Gujarat has crossed 146 per cent mark which in volume is third highest in any one year in the last 30 years, relief commissioner office said on Thursday.
According to official information received from the Gujarat relief commissioner office, till 0800 hrs 146.04 per cent rainfall was received, which in volume terms was 1191.72 mm.
The information stated that over nine percent of the rain has been recorded during non-monsoon season; almost five per cent before arrival of monsoon in mid June, due to the impact of cyclone Vayu and over four per cent so far after the withdrawal of monsoon under the impact of cyclone Kyarr and Maha and a cyclonic circulation.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 13 talukas in five districts had rain and Dhrangadhra in Surendranagar district recorded 60 mm rainfall. Several places in Banaskantha district had also experienced hailstorms on Wednesday where as some places in Kutch district have also seen hailstorm.
The MeT has predicted light to moderate rain spells in some parts of the state on Thursday and Friday.

Notably, the South West Monsoon, that had arrived in the state almost 10 days late on June 25 had withdrawn completely by October 14 after 141.98 per cent rain recorded till this year.
Due to excessive rain the state has also seen extensive damage to the Kharif crops for which the government has also announced a compensation package of Rs 700 crores.
This is third highest rain figure in the state in any year in the last three decades.
The highest rain of 1245 mm was recorded in 1994 and the second highest was in 2006 when a total of 1223 mm of rain was recorded.
