Guard against crop-destroying swarm of locusts, Palghar collector tells farmers

Palghar, May 28 (UNI) Collector Dr Kailas Shinde on Thursday asked the farmers in the district to guard against the crop-destroying swarm of locusts.
In an official message to the farmers of the district, he said, "Locust infestation is found in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The swarms of these insects fly at a speed of 12 to 16 km per hour. As these locusts fly far away, they can pose a big threat. This pest infests the green leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, twigs, foliage, etc., of the plant in its path, causing extensive damage to the crop."
Talasari, Dahanu and Jawahar talukas of the district bordering the above states have been alerted about the locust infestation, said the collector.
