GTAC’s latest tea lot records substantial hike in online auction

Guwahati, Jul 4 (UNI) The Sale No. 27 at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) this year has scripted more than one records, bringing a welcome news for the Tea industry.
Not only was the entire sale conducted completely in online mode, it also went to record the most substantial hike across public auction all over the year compared to the corresponding sale of the previous year.
Altogether 3.80 million kg tea was sold at average price of Rs 273.50 per kg this year, against last year Sale No 27 leading to sale of 3 million kg at Rs 158.98 per kg.
“This is higher by Rs 114.52 per kg and is the most substantial single hike across public auction all over the world,” Dinesh Bihani, secretary, Guwahati Tea Buyers’ Association, informed.
This sale was held as a virtual auction where all the buyers and brokers have took part in digital format (online).
“This sale was particularly noteworthy as it evoked a strong positive response for the trade and making it a huge success during lockdown. In COVID 19 every business is affected, but GTAC is giving immense support,” Bihani added.
