GST cut gives thrust to wind sector; Windergy India 2025 in Chennai

Bengaluru, Oct 8 (UNI) Windergy India 2025, the country's only trade fair and conference exclusively dedicated to wind energy, will be held from October 29 to 31 at the Chennai Trade Centre, featuring over 350 exhibitors, participation from more than 20 countries, and a footfall expected to exceed 15,000 visitors.
The inaugural session will be graced by Cabinet Minister Pralhad Joshi and union Minister of State Shri Shripad Yesso Naik from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
India, which ranks fourth globally in installed wind capacity, has achieved a cumulative 52,681.2 MW as of August 2025. Experts suggest that the reduction in GST rates will make equipment more affordable, encourage innovation, and strengthen domestic competitiveness — key to meeting the government's ambitious targets.
Organised by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and PDA Ventures Pvt. Ltd., Windergy India 2025 enjoys strong institutional support from the Ministry of Power, MNRE, NITI Aayog, and industry associations including the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), International Solar Alliance (ISA), Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), and the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ).
The Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) joins as the partner state, reflecting Karnataka's leadership in renewable energy innovation and its growing role as a wind energy hub.
Speaking about the sector's rapid localisation, RPV Prasad, Managing Director, Envision Energy India, said: "The wind sector contributes 23 per cent of India's total renewable energy installed capacity and is localising swiftly. About 65–70 per cent of turbine components — including towers, blades, generators, and gearboxes — are now manufactured domestically. With MNRE's policy support, this localisation is expected to rise to 85 percent by 2027. Windergy India 2025 is a crucial platform for policymakers, industry leaders, and technology partners to align with the national vision of achieving 100 GW of wind power by 2030."
Themed "Wind Power: Policies and Partnerships Towards Aatmanirbharta," the conference will feature high-level sessions, including the Tulsi R. Tanti Memorial Lecture on "The Road to Energy Self-Sufficiency and Net Zero: The Strategic Role of Wind." This will be followed by a Government Policy & Regulatory Panel examining the pathway to 100 GW by 2030, a State Leadership Roundtable on "Powering the Wind Surge," and discussions on offshore wind development and international best practices in onshore/offshore operations.
The second day will spotlight key issues such as financing, supply chain optimisation, cost reduction strategies, and export competitiveness. The event will conclude with "Winds of Influence," a thought-provoking dialogue led by women leaders who are reshaping India's wind energy narrative.
International pavilions from Denmark, Germany, and Spain — countries renowned for their wind technology excellence — will add global depth to the event. Major industry partners include Suzion Energy, Envision Wind Power, GE Vernova, Senvion India, Renfra Energy, Winergy, Globe Ecologistics, Exxon Mobil, Leap Green, UL Solutions, and Latent Landinfra.
