Growth rate of Bihar 11.3 per cent in 2017-18; highest in the country: Sushil Modi

Patna, Feb 11 (UNI) Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said the growth rate of Bihar in 2017-18 fiscal was registered at 11.3 per cent, the highest in the country. Mr Modi, after presenting Economic Survey of Bihar for financial year 2017-18 in Assembly, told media persons that the state recorded significant jump in its growth rate, rising from 9.9 per cent in the preceding year.

The deputy chief minister, also the finance minister of the state, said the country`s growth rate had been about 7 per cent during 2017-18 and the preceding year while Bihar`s GSDP was Rs 4,87,628 crore at current prices and Rs 3,61,504 crore at constant prices (2011-12) during the fiscal 2017-18. The resulting per capita GSDP in the same period remained Rs 42,242 (current prices) and Rs 31.316 (constant prices), he added.

Mr Modi said Bihar is generating revenue surplus for than a decade as it has grown from Rs 6441 crore during 2013-14 to Rs 14,823 crore during 2017-18, its highest level so far. The primary deficit of the state government came down from Rs 8289 crore during 2016-17 to Rs 5251 crore during 2017-18 as it also resulted in bringing down gross fiscal deficit from Rs 16,480 crore during 2016-17 to Rs 14,305 crore in 2017-18, which was 2.9 percent of GSDP in 2017-18, he added.
