Grant leases to shrines in MP: Diggy

Bhopal, Sep 17 (UNI) Rajya Sabha Member and erstwhile Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Kamal Nath to order a survey of places of worship constructed over government land and then hand over plots' lease deeds to shrines concerned.
“The Congress manifesto enshrined such an assurance. Sanatan Dharm is the world’s most ancient faith. People are perpetrating improper activities while donning saffron robes. Even the Almighty shall not pardon them. An attempt is underway to convert ‘maths’ and temples across the country into political dens. It is imperative to wage a struggle against that. Let not the Sanatan Dharm adherents allow themselves to be used politically. The then Premier Indira Gandhi had a Sanskrit pathshala established in Rewa but the Centre and the then state dispensation closed down that institution. Those who shut it had wrested power in the name of religion,” he said here while addressing a monks’ gathering organised by the Spirituality Department.
