EOW files FIR in MP rice scam

28 Nov 2020 | 9:20 PM

Bhopal, Nov 28 (UNI) The Economic Offences Wing registered a first information report on Saturday – regarding rice-related inconsistencies in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat and Mandla districts – against in excess of half-a-dozen officials plus others, EOW sources said.
In the beginning of this year, the state dispensation purchased paddy at support price from peasants through the medium of primary marketing and cooperative societies. The paddy was handed over to registered mills for custom milling and the rice subsequently deposited in godowns through the State Civil Supplies Corporation. The storage places were inspected by a central committee that collected samples for analysis, which revealed the rice to be substandard. It also came to light that the millers took paddy exceeding their facilities’ capacities and had it processed at other mills. Quality inspectors failed in their duty; the district and area managers did not check the rice.
