Gram Panchayats becoming den of corruption: Assy members

Shimla, Aug 22 (UNI) Members of Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday expressed concern over rising cases of corruption and misuse of public funds in the Gram Panchayats and others rural bodies in the state terming it den of corruption.
A private member resolution was moved by Chintpurni BJP MLA under rule 101 in the state assembly which was supported by a number of members from treasury as well as the opposition benches.
Members belonged to both sides demanded concrete steps from the government to address rampant corruption in the rural bodies.
Replying on the discussion Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Verinder Kanwar assured the members that department would take strong initiative for transparent use of public funds in the Gram Panchayat to stop missuses, shear wastage public fund, misappropriations and corruptions.
Minister said that he himself rose to this post from a Gram Panchayat Vice Pradhan and fully understands the nexus of corruption mushrooming with massive diversion of funds through Gram Panchayats.
He assured that many members during the discussion on this resolution pointed out that elected Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Vice Pradhan or members are becoming victims of the corruption cases being filed.
Minister agreed to the members that clever government servants including Gram Panchayat Secretaries, Technical assistants and Junior Engineers despite promoting the corruption and involvement in many such case succeed to evade departmental trap as only elected representatives coming under trap of such probe.
