New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday called for creation of a free and non discriminatory trade order which would ensure honesty and transparency within a rules-based multilateral trading system.
Underlining the need for resolution of issues posed by a large number of non-tariff barriers in international trade, Goyal assured of reciprocal action wherever India faces an unfair or unjust treatment.
Goyal‘s comments at the 54th Convocation of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in New Delhi on Friday comes amidst India’s push for early conclusion of FTAs with EU, UK, Canada, Australia and UAE.
Lauding the achievements of the graduating students, several of who were presented with awards for excellence, Goyal called for enhancing exposure of students to the best of technology, foreign law, economics, and international trade.
Referring to programmes like the PM GatiShakti national masterplan for infrastructure and multimodal connectivity, Goyal highlighted the need for planned, focussed efforts to create infrastructure in the country by breaking silos and bringing in synergy. "There is a need to bring in quality and productivity in all we do. A ‘Made in India’ product must be a guarantee to the world," he added. Goyal expressed the hope that India would be able to seize every opportunity available to grow. "The past is a stepping stone, not a milestone,” he added.
