New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Asserting that the NDA Government at the Centre would not shy away from taking tough decisions like merger of banks and the implementation of the GST in national interest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that better all round development of the country over the last four years with the same resources was possible only because the interests of the country were kept paramount.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone of India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) a centre having facilities on par with the best in the world, in Dwarka, the PM said,’’the government will not shy away from taking tough decisions in the national interest.
In the last four years, all-round development in the country was possible from the same resources because the interests of the country were kept paramount by this government and all processes were turned in the right direction.’’
‘’It is this Government that has taken the step of bringing the biggest indirect tax in the country called the GST, launching the biggest mass movement called Swachha Bharat and now has undertaken the task of giving to the country the world's biggest health care scheme - Ayushman Bharat,’’ the PM said at the event where Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu was also present.
The PM expressed confidence that the size of Indian economy will double to 5 trillion US Dollars by 2022 with manufacturing and agriculture contributing one trillion US Dollars each.
He said that the Indian economy will grow at over 8 per cent rate with massive employment generation being seen in IT and retail sectors.
‘’Macroeconomic fundamental of the economy are strong. The government's push for Make-in-India has led to 80 per cent of mobile phones currently in use being manufactured within the country, helping save Rs 3 lakh crore in foreign exchange,’’the PM said.
