ParliamentPosted at: Feb 6 2017 3:45PM Govt wants national tribunal to go into all river water disputes: GoyalNew Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) The Government today said it wanted that all inter-state river disputes be taken up by the proposed national tribunal with permanent establishment and infrastructure to go into river water disputes including the Cauvery river water issue under a time limit and take these pending cases to finality. Replying to a query in this regard during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Minister Piyush Goyal said that a proposal for amendment to existing Inter-State River Waters Disputes (ISRWD) Act, 1956 was ‘’under consideration’’ of the Water Resources ministry to further streamline adjudication of inter-state river disputes by constituting a standalone tribunal with permanent establishment and office and infrastructure so as to obviate the need to set up a separate tribunal for each water dispute which was invariably a time consuming process.Following the Cabinet’s approval, the ministry had initiated the process to introduce the Bill in the budget session of Parliament. He said Niti Aayog had taken inter-state Secretary level meeting along with representatives of the Central ministries concerned for deliberations on the proposed Bill on January 28, 2016.
