Govt. tackling flood situation in aggressive manner: Assam BJP

Guwahati, Jul 16 (UNI) Assam state BJP today said that under the leadership and
able guidance of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal the government is tackling
the prevailing flood situation in the state in a very aggressive manner.
Addressing a press conference, Assam State BJP Chief Spokeperson Rupam
Gowami said that in a very short span the flood has hit the state twice this year
which has caused large scale damage to life and properties across the state.
“In such a scenario under the leadership of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal
the state water resources department along with other agencies is carrying on the
relief and rehabilitation work at brisk pace,” Mr Goswami said.
The flood situation in Assam further deteriorated as the overall death toll has
touched 68 with 36,42,546 affected population across 26 districts of the state.
Altogether eight major rivers were flowing above the danger level across the state,
including the Brahmaputra in five places and Kopili in two places.
Detailing out the works done by the ruling BJP government in the past four years,
Mr Goswami said starting from 2016 to 2019 a total of Rs 1563.96 crore have
been spent by the government on 731 projects to control the flood and erosion
problem in the state.
“Sonowal government in the last four years has done various works to tackle the
flood and erosion problem and which resulted in construction of strong embankments
which were completely destroyed during Congress regime,” Mr Goswami said.

Nagaland Health Minister says ‘no community spread of COVID

Kohima, Aug 3 (UNI) Nagaland Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister S Pangnyu Phom has denied any community transmission of COVID-19 so far in the State. In a statement, Minister Pangnyu said there has been a spike in the number of positive cases in the recent days particularly in Kohima and Dimapur. He said, majority of the confirmed case are among armed forces personnel and assured that vigorous contact tracing is being carried out and in all positive cases the source of infection has been traced.

Kohima, Aug 3 (UNI) In the continues COVID-19 positive cases in Nagaland, the state today recorded 194 confirmed COVID positive cases, giving the raise of positive cases to 2,129 so far. Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom in his updated on Twitter informed that altogether 8,456 suspected COVID cases were tested today, out of which 194 COVID positive cases were found. The spike in COVID-19 cases continues to surge unabated in Nagaland and broke the daily record today with 194 confirmed infections. Out of these, 136 were registered from Dimapur, while there were 36 cases from Zunheboto and 22 cases from Kohima, he informed.
