Govt's direction to cancel licences of 2 companies eye wash: Congress

Panaji, Nov 11 (UNI) The Congress in Goa on Monday said that the reported decision of Goa Government directing Port and Customs authorities for cancelling the licence of two companies pertaining to naptha transporting vessel which has ran aground the city was an eye wash.
In a statement, Goa Congress Spokesperson Trajano D'Mello said the reported decision by the Home Ministry of the Goa Government directing the Port and Customs authorities for cancelling the licence of Barbados Maritime Pvt Ltd and Goa Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to Cancel the license of Canacona Hydrocarbons pertaining to naphtha transporting vessel MT Nu Shi Nalini, contending that the vessel was a threat to the Goa coast, appeared to be an eye wash and a diversion tactic from the main issue of the impending environmental, ecological and maritime disaster.
''This action seems to have been taken after our President Girish Chodankar wrote to the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister in turn has asked for an explanation from the Goa government,'' he claimed.
''Interestingly, from reliable sources ,the above named company is registered in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat where BJP rules. The Chief Minister should explain why did it take 20 days to identify the company that was dealing with the Nushi Nalini vessel? Is the Goa government in possession of the customs manifest indicating the cargo in the said vessel and if so whether the contents of the cargo have been verified and confirmed if it matches the customs manifest ?. There is reason to believe that the silence of the Goa government indicates that bigwigs from the BJP governments of Gujarat and Goa are involved in the mysterious vessel that is threatening an irreparable disaster for the state of Goa. Have fool proof measures been taken by the Goa government to avert this disaster?,'' he asked.
