Govt planning to bring renewable power in Indian energy mix

New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) The Government on Tuesday said it is planning to bring in more renewable power in the Indian energy mix and trying to create a balance in energy production through efficient but cleaner conventional power sources such as hydro and gas which are traditionally cleaner sources of energy however.
Thus coal based plants which is a cheaper source of energy continues to be in the power mix, but this balance is being maintained by supplying the incremental power needs through alternative source of cleaner energy such as solar, Power Ministry Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla said.

He was speaking at the ‘12th India Energy Summit 2018’, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.
Former Power Secretary Anil Razdan said the Energy Summit is being held in the backdrop of
India, well on track to meet its green house gas (GHG) emissions intensity to GDP international commitment at Paris and also in respect of non fossil fuel generating capacity, particularly in solar PV. However domestic manufacture of solar equipment is meeting a stiff challenge from imports.
There is also a strong commitment and action to meet the almost two-decade-old resolve to achieve 100 per cent electrification of villages and households, he added.
Addressing the session, NTPC chairman and managing director Gurdeep Singh said power sector authorities are making all the necessary efforts to provide electricity to each and every household in India.
He also pointed out that the cleanest source of energy in any household is electricity which is only used by households for lighting purposes and electricity induction for cooking which is
actually a cleaner energy option for cooking is hardly used, thus this form needs to be promoted more effectively.
