Govt notification on snooping only seeks to give clarity to earlier notification: Home Ministry

New Delhi,Jan14 (UNI)Even as the Supreme Court issued notice to Centre over PIL regarding Computer Interception Authorisation to10 security agencies, the Government officials on Monday stressed that there was nothing new in the Interception notification issued by Ministry of Home Affairs on December 20 but that it only added clarity to the earlier notification issued during the UPA rule.
The MHA sources said that there has been no change, the same agencies were authorised in 2009 and have been given powers to seek details from the service providers. These agencies have been notified now.
“There was legal lacuna as these rules were made in 2009 and Standard Operative Procedure (SoP) for service providers were finalised in 2011 for providing data requested by the agencies which has been cleared in the new notification”, senior Home Ministry officials added.
