Govt formulates new procedure for deployment of central forces in States

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Amid the row over the withdrawal of central armed police forces (CAPFs) from Darjeeling in West Bengal, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formulated a new standard operating procedure (SOP) under which the state’s request for these forces would be strictly scrutinised.
According to ministry officials, the MHA has requested the States to form a state-level committee under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police (law and order), local representatives of Intelligence Bureau and possibly the Deputy Inspector General or Commandant of CAPFs stationed in the state or nearby.
“These committee may examine and scrutinize the requirement of CAPFs by keeping in view of internal security, previous scale of deployment, optimal utilization of the state resources, intelligence input and availability of CAPFs in nearby locations,”said the officials.
