Govt committed to resolve boundary issue, says Meghalaya CM

Shillong, Jan 21 (UNI) The Meghalaya Government is committed to find a lasting solution to the long-pending boundary issue with neighbouring Assam, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function observing citizens the 49th Meghalaya Statehood Day, Sangma said that the government would resume talks after Assam’s assembly elections, likely to be held in April or May of this year.
“The boundary issue has been there for a very long time in fact since the beginning of the state, many discussions have taken place at different levels. Last year I was supposed to meet the Assam Chief Minister in the month of March-April, and we had finalized to meet but then Covid happened, so we couldn’t, and now that Assam elections are around the corner so we will not be able to meet, discussions will take place only after elections are over,” the Chief Minister said.
