Govt committed to protect IPRs: Prabhu

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday said his Ministry was committed to protecting intellectual property rights (IPRs) and promote innovation in the country.
"The Ministry is engaging enforcement agencies including police department for proper administration of IPR laws," Mr Prabhu said, at an event organised by industry body CII here.
He said innovation needs legal protection and so the ministry was now working on legal aspects of the IPR.
Besides, the Ministry is also undertaking a series of awareness programmes on IPR related issues, he added.
On the occasion, Mr Prabhu also awarded special citations for significant achievements in IPR. Those who received the citations included Ghaziabad Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari; Vijaywada City Police for combating network of drug mafia engaged in manufacturing and selling counterfeit medicines; and Sabyasachi Couture for designs.
