Govt amends scheme rules for disbursal of ban relief assistance to fishermen

Puducherry, Jun 26 (UNI) The Government has amended the scheme rules of “ Welfare and Relief for Fishermen during Lean season and natural calamities” for disbursal of ban relief assistance to the fishermen.
Ms Purva Garg, Secretary (Fisheries) in a release on Thursday night said, with the approval of the Lt.Governor, a sub-clause “Benefit under this scheme shall not be denied only on the ground that head of family or family member is a recipient of Old Age Pension (OAP)”, is added to the scheme.
The amendment has been done subject to the condition that the benefit should be released by DBT mode.
Further, a proper computerized Data Management system should be put in place before the department seeks sanction for the assistance from next year, Ms Garg said.
It is also directed to examine closely the OAP scheme Rules and propose suitable amendment of the same.
With the approval of the Lt.Governor, the fishermen families will get the relief for fishing ban period for which an amount of Rs.12 crore has already been budgeted, she said.
It may be noted that AIADMK legislators resorted to a dharna holding black flags near the Raj Nivas on Thursday to press this demand and fishermen in all the 18 fishermen villages at a recent meeting had resolved to organize agitations in sea on the issue.
