New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The Maneka Gandhi-led Women and Child Development Ministry initiated 'WeAreEqual' campaign for enhanced gender equality in the country in the run up to International Women's Day next week has received overwhelming response on social networking site Twitter with mega film star Amitabh Bachchan and noted boxer Mary Kom endorsing the same. According to the official sources here, the campaign has received support from about 2.6 crore Twitter users including a large number of women scientists from ISRO. Women scientists from ISRO who supported the campaign include K Thenmozhi Selvi, Subha Varier and Minal Rohit. Ms Minal is also one of the women faces of ISRO's acclaimed Mangalyaan or Mars Orbiter Mission launched in 2014. In his unique manner, Amitabh Bachchan endorsed the campaign in a brief tweet saying, "When I die, the assets that I shall leave behind, shall be shared equally between my daughter and my son! #genderequality #WeAreEqual". The campaign will culminate in the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8. The day's special attraction will be the conferring of the prestigious Nari Shakti Award by President Pranab Mukherjee. Individuals and institutions will be honoured for their exemplary contribution to women's empowerment, sources said. "The campaign takes a positive approach, engaging both men and women across the cross-section of the society and encouraging to stand up for equal rights and opportunities," it stated. Other prominent personalities, such as actors Dia Mirza and comedian Vasu Primlani also joined the campaign. "The message of equality will travel across millions of hearts, inspiring each and every one to join the change called #WeAreEqual," the Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi said in her tweet.
