New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Search Engine Google on Monday dedicated its doodle to Dada Saheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, on his 148th birth anniversary.
Dada Saheb Phalke's full name was Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. He was the director, producer and screen writer of the Indian cinema. His first film, Raja Harishchandra which came in the year 1912 is considered to be the first movie in the history of Indian cinema.
His films include Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919), Buddhadev (1923), Setu Bandhan (1932) and Gangavataran (1937).
He made 95 films and 27 short films in his 19 years of film career.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to cinema, was instituted in his honour by the Government of India in 1969. The award is one of the most prestigious awards in Indian cinema and is the highest official recognition for film personalities in the country.
A postage stamp was released by the India Post to honour him in 1971.
