Goodwin brothers remanded to police custody till Dec 24

Thane, Dec 14 (UNI) A day after their arrest, the two brother-owners of the Goodwin Jewellers were remanded into police custody, till December 24, by the district court here on Saturday in connection of a multi-crore cheating case.
The accused identified as Sunil Kumar Akrakaran and Sudheer Kumar Akrakaran surrendered to the court on Friday and later were taken into custody by the city police on the charge of allegedly cheating customers to the tune of over Rs 25 crore.
They surrendered to the court after the police seized their properties and froze their bank accounts.
They closed shop just before Diwali festival and fled the city, leaving thousands of customer-cum-investors into lurch.
Following which, three FIRs were filed against the duo with the Naupada, Dombviili and Shivaji Nagar police stations.
Another six offences have been registered in various police stations of the state, it was stated.
Today, after hearing both the sides, District Judge P P Jadhav remanded them into police custody for 11 days and directed the police to carry out investigations into the assets to facilitate their liquidity for repayment to the thousands of investors in the case.
The court rejected appeal of advocate Rajan Salunke, who appeared for the brothers, to club the three FIRs together.
