Goodwin brothers remanded to police custody till Dec 24

Thane, Dec 14 (UNI) A day after their arrest, the two brother-owners of the Goodwin Jewellers were remanded into police custody, till December 24, by the district court here on Saturday in connection of a multi-crore cheating case.
The accused identified as Sunil Kumar Akrakaran and Sudheer Kumar Akrakaran surrendered to the court on Friday and later were taken into custody by the city police on the charge of allegedly cheating customers to the tune of over Rs 25 crore.
They surrendered to the court after the police seized their properties and froze their bank accounts.
They closed shop just before Diwali festival and fled the city, leaving thousands of customer-cum-investors into lurch.
Following which, three FIRs were filed against the duo with the Naupada, Dombviili and Shivaji Nagar police stations.
Another six offences have been registered in various police stations of the state, it was stated.
Today, after hearing both the sides, District Judge P P Jadhav remanded them into police custody for 11 days and directed the police to carry out investigations into the assets to facilitate their liquidity for repayment to the thousands of investors in the case.
The court rejected appeal of advocate Rajan Salunke, who appeared for the brothers, to club the three FIRs together.

Nashik records the largest number of corona recoveries

Nashik, Aug 7 (UNI) The Nashik district on Friday witnessed the biggest recovery of COVID-19 cases till date.
On Friday 681 cases people recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the district. This is for the first time that so many cases recovered and discharged in a single day in the district. On the other hand 503 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the district while 7 people succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday.
