Gold Smuggling case : CM should have demanded CBI probe instead of writing letter to PM : Surendran

Kozhikode, Jul 9 (UNI) BJP Kerala Unit President K Surendran on Thursday felt that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should have officially demanded a CBI probe, with the approval of his Cabinet in the Gold Smuggling case, instead of writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering all support to the investigation conducted by the Customs department.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the official request seeking a CBI inquiry should also include probing the role of his office in facilitating the gold smuggling so that his tall claims that his office had no involvement in the episode could be proved beyond any suspicion.
He said the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited (KSIEL) authorities who are manning the Airport warehouse has not shared the CCTV footage even after 48 hours after the Customs officials sought it. Had the State agencies supported the investigation, the prime accused in the case Swapna Suresh should not have been at large now, the BJ leader said.
