Panaji, Jul 15 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday informed state assembly that the state would file SLP (Civil) against the findings of the Mhadei Water Tribunal award soon while it has already filed counter afidavit for both SLPs, filed by State of Karnataka and Maharashtra on May 6, 2019.
In a written reply in response to a question tabled by Congress MLA Digambar Kamat, the Chief Minister said,'The award of Tribunal has been declared on 14th August 2018. As per the award the tribunal has worked out the total yield of the Mahadayi river as 188.06 TMC at 75 per cent dependability over the total basin area of 2032 sqkm. State of Karnataka is allotted 3.9 TMC water, for out of basin diversion and 1.50 TMC of water for in basin consumptive use and has been allotted 8.02 TMC of water for non consumptive use for hydropower at proposed Mahadayi Hydro Power Project within the basin. State of Maharashtra is allotted 1.33 TMC of water for in basin use. Diversion of Mahadayi water to Tillari river basin has been rejected. State of Goa is allotted 24 TMC of water for 59 new projects, which are in addition to 9.395 TMC of water for existing use, which will be continued. There is no limit of Goa’s use of water for non consumptive purpose.'
Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, had made reference under Sub Sec 3 of Section 5 of Inter State Water Dispute Act 1956 to the MWDT on January 14, 2019, and sought nine nine clarifications are sought, he said, adding the reference made under Section 5(3) of the Inter State act 1956 by all the party states, including Union of India, was yet to come up for hearing before the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal.
