Goa’s 2nd Science Film Festival from Jan 17

Panaji, Jan 3 (UNI) In a cinematic treat for science-fiction movie enthusiasts, Goa is all set to host the second edition of Science Film Festival from January 17.
The four-day festival will be organised by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in association with Department of Science & Technology (Goa), Entertainment Society of Goa, Coastal Centre for Agriculture.
Addressing a press conference here yesterday, NIO director and SCI-FI Organising Committee chairman Prasanna Kumar said, 'The four-day event will be packed with film screenings, discussions and interactive sessions with experts and scientists.
There will be presentations on Space, Genetics, and Mathematics by renowned experts such as Dr Shekar Mande (Director-NCCS), Dr Mayank Vahia (Professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research), Dr Mandar Banusha (Professor at Mumbai University), Dr Ajit Kembhavi (ex-Director and Professor Emeritus at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, India) and many others.
They will be investing their time, expertise and knowledge with the participating delegates.
' The target group of the event had been narrowed down to students from Class VII to IX and Class XI, but people from all age groups might register themselves as delegates and soak in the power of science.
The films to be screened are 'The Genius of Srinivasa Ramanujan', 'The fly room', 'Sunshine', 'Apollo 13', 'Man who knew Infinity', 'Contagion', 'Contact' and 'Cosmos'.
While, the event will be opened with 'The Genius of Srinivasa Ramanujan', 'Cosmos' will be the closing film of the festival.
Goa Vidnyan Parishad president Suhas Godse, ESG chairman Rajendra Talak, National Organising secretary Vijnana Bharathi and Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Goa director Dr Eaknath Chakurkar were present at the press conference.
