Global meet on sustainable trade and standards concludes

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) The two-day international convention on Sustainable Trade and Standards organised jointly by Quality Council of India (QCI) and the United Nations Forum on Sustainability Standards (UNFSS) concluded here on Tuesday.

This high-level Convention looks into leveraging trade, standards, and global value chains as engines of sustainable development. NFSS, UNCTAD, UNIDO, FAO, ITC, UNE, WTO, ILO, government institutions, standards bodies and agencies from Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, China, Germany, Canada, UK, Sweden, Switzerland, were among others which participated in this Convention.

UNFSS also launched the 3rd UNFSS Flagship Report at this Convention. The report was introduced by UNFSS Coordinator Santiago Fernandez De Cordoba.

Speaking on the occasion the UNFSS Coordinator said, “The ICSTS explores opportunities in enhancing developing countries’ capacity to trade to the global market. Sustainability standards are becoming a market reality and coping with them can create business opportunities.”

QCI Chairman Adil Zainulbhai said, on its path to become a global leader in manufacturing, India has time and again showcased its commitment to trade sustainability and ease of doing business and also establish its role as an agenda-setter in the domain of standards which has helped integrate its producers and manufacturers in global value chains.

QCI Secretary General Dr R P Singh said, "As the world’s first national platform on PSS, QCI is humbled to receive such immense support from the Government of India and the United Nations system for creating a space that engages stakeholders of value chains in a discourse surrounding the people, planet and collective prosperity."
