New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday asserted that principal opposition Indian National Congress' senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had made another attempt to 'demean and moralise' the majority community by observing that the number of candidates inviting him to campaign had gone down sharply.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha was reported to have made the remark at an event of the Aligarh Muslim University in Lucknow organised recently by its alumni to mark the 201st birth anniversary of the AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Mr Azad was reported to have said that in the past four years, he had observed that the figure of invitations from 95% had dropped to just 20 per cent.
'The simple reason behind fewer people calling Mr Azad for campaigning is the falling stock of the Congress,' BJP spokesman Sambit Patra told reporters here.
Dr Patra said 'If we support terrorists, should this be criticised.'
The BJP leader said the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi should answer why the senior leader had made the observation.
'Can they repeat the same words for the other community,' he said. Aligarh Muslim University displayed a portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, but when somebody questioned it, it was termed conspiracy, Dr Patra said.
The BJP leader alleged the Congress was carrying out paid sponsorship advertisement on Facebook and this was a grave matter.
Displaying a paper containing a Congress Active advertisement (paid ad) sponsored in Pakistan, Mr Patra alleged that 'Congress was spending money in various countries for its 'Modi Hatao Campaign'.
He averred that the Congress was advertising in Pakistan against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the nation
and named Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for 'singing paeans' for Pakistan. Mr Patra also named' habitual offenders, Mani Shankar Aiyar and Salman Khurshid' for going against the nation.
