Jammu, July 6 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Wednesday resigned from the post.
Mir according to party sources has tendered his resignation to the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
He remained the J&K Congress party Chief for a period of eight years.
In a letter dashed to the AICC President Sonia Gandhi, Mir has said that as a disciplined soldier, any decision taken by Sonia Gandhi regarding his successor shall be acceptable to him.
“As per best traditions of the party, he put down his papers to facilitate the Congress President to appoint the next President of JKPCC,” read the letter.
However, four names have been put forth for the next JKPCC head, which will be announced very soon, said the sources.
