Berlin, May 31 (UNI) Germany recorded 286 more COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours taking country's total number of cases to 1,81,482 since the start of the pandemic said the Robert Koch Institute on Sunday.
286 cases being reported in a day marks a significant decline from the 738 new cases reported a day earlier.
Sputnik quoted the institute saying that death toll rose by 11 in the past 24 hours to reach 8,500, the daily death toll is also a significant fall from the 39 deaths registered during the previous 24 hours.
The southern state of Bavaria has the maximum number of cases with 46,917, North Rhine-Westphalia comes in at second with 38,000 cases while and Baden-Wurttemberg has 34,718 cases.
The situation in Germany has witnessed an improvement since mid-April, despite fluctuations in the number of new cases reported daily.
The German government started the gradual rollback of lockdown restrictions from late April onwards, as schools, shops, playgrounds, churches and museums have already reopened. The country's top football league- the Bundesliga, also resumed action in mid-May.
