GeM platform to eliminate middlemen, says Prabhu

Solan, Feb 19 (UNI) The Union government has launched the Govt e-Marketplace (GeM) platform from Tuesday on wards to felicitate and promote industry in the country.
This was sated by Union Minister of Industries and Commerce Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday at the video-conferencing with industrialists of Himachal Pradesh at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) at Baddi in Solan district. Over 35 leading industrialists from BBN were present at the video conference session.
Mr Prabhu has explained the concept of GeM through which the producer, vendor and buyer will share a common platform to do transactions directly. This platform will eliminate the middle-men, too. He said that with the introduction of the GeM platform, the industrialists and consumers would get direct benefits.
He said that India has immense potential for startup scheme. This is the most successful scheme of the Union government that would enable millions of youth self-reliant.
The Union Minister has revealed that during the last five years, the infrastructure of the country has been strengthened through the industrial corridors for promoting ‘Ease of Doing Business’ system.
He said that the Union government is not only promoting capital investment for strengthening ‘Make in India’ but also bringing about changes in the industrial policy for facilitating the already existing industries.The Union Minister also re plied to the questions of industrialists.
Ashish Bagrodia and Ramesh Kumar Jain, Co-Chairmen, Himachal Pradesh State Chapter of the PHDCCI revealed that the PHD Chamber conducted this video conferencing session at 16 places in different cities across India.
Bagrodia said that the proposal for allowing private participation of self-help groups, artisans and start-ups for sourcing goods through the platform of GeM is a welcome step along with government’s initiative on Ease of Doing Business and Start-ups.
Jain regretted that no incentive has been announced for the MSME sector. He also pleaded that the bicycle industry should be treated at par with other labour intensive industry to enable it to avail desired benefits.
