Kaithal, Oct 13 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and party candidate from Kaithal Randeep Singh Surjewala on Sunday hit out at BJP candidate Leela Raman, saying the region was 'ruled by gangsters' in the former Indian National Lok Dal MLA's regime, in an election meeting here.
Surjewala made a scathing attack to mention the law and order when Leela Ram was INLD MLA in 2000-2005.
He said that when the gangsters of Jhabbal gang, Surinder Geong gang and Krishan Pehalwan gang were active in Kaithal and kidnappings and extortions were a routine when Leela Ram, the present BJP candidate, was the Legislative Member from Kaithal.
He quoted some instances that son of a brick kiln owner Naresh Goel was kidnapped and released after a huge ransom was paid to kidnappers.
Commission agents namely Narinder Arora, Armanand Goel, Om Parkash were murdered and people had started migrating to other towns to save themselves and families from gangsters.
"The drug peddlers and satta operators were very active then. The goons in open jeeps used to have rounds of town roads then," the Congress leader said.
He said that Leela Ram was the same person but his face has changed as now he was in BJP.
Surjewala also pointed that Congress government was always tough with criminals and anti-social elements and worked hard to ensure safety and security of all sections of society.
