Hyderabad, Sep 19 (UNI) Unmindful of rain which has been lashing many parts of the city since late afternoon, multitudes participated in the Ganesh immersion process and the "sobha yatra" on Sunday.
Thousands thronged the picturesque Hussainsagar lake, the main venue of the immersion and watched, chanting "Ganapati Bappa Morya", as the Ganesh idols were being lowered into the lake with the help of cranes.
The star attraction was the immersion of the 40-feet tall Khairatabad Maha Ganapathi which was transported to the venue in a six-hour shobha yatra participated by thousands of people including women.
The idol was immersed after performing a two-hour long pooja at the lake.
The other giant Ganesh idol from Madhapur was on its way vending many busy streets to Hussainsagar lake. The immersion with thousands of idols will continue till Monday morning.
Massive security and other arrangements were made to ensure a smooth and orderly immersion.
The Ganesh idols immersion also took place in major towns in Telangana including Warangal and Nizamabad.
