Belagavi, Oct 30 (UNI) Indian Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat unveiled Sharqat War Trophy at Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) on Tuesday commemorating centenary year of Sharqat battle victory of 114 Mahratas (now the regiment centre) at Sharqat in Iraq.
The 100th anniversary of “Sharqat Day” is being celebrated by The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre on 29 and 30 Oct 2018 with grandeur. “Sharqat Day” is celebrated every year to commemorate the gallant victory of 114 Marathas the then British regiment now called the Maratha Regimental Centre here. The regiment won the war at Sharqat (now in Iraq) on 29 Oct 1918 during First World War.
Hundreds of recruits from the regiment participated in a grand sports and cultural events for the last two days at Keshav Rao Talekar Drill Square. The events included gymnastics, martial arts, fire ring jumping, Malkhamb, Jhanz Pathak, Lezim, Zumba dance, PT Display and other adventure sports.
